Schmakel Eye Care
Schmakel Eye Care is a full scope optometric practice dedicated to providing the highest quality vision care to our patients from infancy through adulthood in a friendly, comfortable, and professional atmosphere. With a highly trained staff and state of the art equipment, we go beyond 20/20.
The Sensory Learning Program, founded by Mary Bolles, is a non-cognitive, non-invasive, foundational therapy that uses light, sound and motion to stimulate the visual, auditory and vestibular systems simultaneously, in order to improve sensory function. Although we are not working with specific labels, we do find that children and adults that have been diagnosed with Autism, Aspergers, ADD/ADHD, Speech Delays, PDDNOS, Anxiety and Depression, experience improvements with perception and the ability to learn.
The Vision Improvement Program [VIP]
Dr. Jeffrey Schmakel brought the Vision Improvement Program (VIP) to the Toledo area in 1993. Since this time, Dr. Schmakel has worked with over 500 children and adults. VIP is unique in that it is a 10-12 week intervention (compared to other programs that can last anywhere from 6-24 months) that entails the child or adult coming to our office 3 days per week, working one-on-one with a vision therapist for one hour long sessions. The prescribed activities and exercises are then completed at home the remaining four days of the week.
