Dr. Jeffrey G. Schmakel, OD, C.O.V.D. received his Doctor of Optometry Degree from The Ohio State University in 1978 graduating Cum Laude and President of his class. Prior to receiving his degree, Dr. Schmakel was a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman. During this time he worked as a operating room technician and an Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat technician with 2 ½ years experience with Ophthalmologists in the Operating Room and Clinic. Dr. Schmakel spent numerous years in Clinical research and investigation with companies such as Evoked Potential Laboratories, CAB Lenses, Danker Silicone Lenses, and Optacryl-EXT and Optacryl-Z contact lenses. Upon re-locating from Columbus to Toledo, Dr. Schmakel purchased and developed The EyeExam 2000 practice inside of a national chain store. In 1993, the goal of helping children and adults that struggle with learning and behavior was reached with the implementation of The Vision Improvement Program. In 1995, Dr. Schmakel began Schmakel Eye Care, a completely private professional optometry practice. Most recently, he brought The Sensory Learning Program to his office to help children and adults that are afflicted with issues related to Autism, Asbergers, Speech and Language Delays, ADD/ADHD and other Sensory Integration Issues.
